Overview
A long time favorite, the fifth edition of BASIC CLINICAL LAB COMPETENCIES FOR RESPIRATORY CARE: AN INTEGRATED APPROACH continues to bring classroom theory to life at the bedside. Known for its integration of theoretical knowledge and practical skills, this text emphasizes the importance of assessment of need, contraindications, hazards/complications, monitoring, and outcomes assessment in respiratory care. Concise, direct, and easy to understand, this fifth edition has been updated to reflect recent advances in the field in order to ensure that students have the knowledge and skills needed to practice the art and the science of respiratory care.
- Existing chapters have been updated and revised to reflect changes in the scope of practice.
- The ventilation section has been extensively revised including updates in non-invasive ventilation, pressure and volume ventilation, advanced modes of ventilation, neonatal pediatric ventilation, and oscillatory ventilation.
- Material has been updated to reflect recent changes in the field. For example, this new edition contains updates to commonly used terminology, a list of the Joint Commission abbreviations that should not be used in documentation, revised information on contact transmission, updated AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines, and updated drug information.
- Instructor materials have been added to assist in preparing for classes. Instructors will now have a computerized testbank, instructor presentations in Power PointTM, an Instructor's manual, and an image library.
- The integration of theory and psychomotor knowledge gives students a better understanding of skill application to real life practice.
- The text is organized around the NBRC content matrix so that students can use the text as an NBRC study aid.
- The inclusion of AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines makes this text a one source reference for skills and CPGs.
