Overview

Accounting: An Introduction to Principles and Practice, 9e is aligned to FNS30317 Certificate III in Accounts Administration and FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. The content is organised around the assessment requirements for each unit of competency, supporting compliance with the VET Quality Framework and the Financial Services Training Package. The student-friendly text includes diagrams to demonstrate electronic forms of documentation and transfer of funds. The importance of thorough authorisation and checking procedures to verify the accuracy and authenticity of a transaction is also incorporated in diagrams and throughout the chapter. In this latest edition the payroll chapter has been updated in line with current minimum wage rates, and using 2017–18 income tax rates. Student workbook also available, providing consistent and professionally presented worksheet templates for questions chapter-by-chapter.

Edward A. Clarke

Edward A Clarke graduated from the University of New South Wales after completing a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting. He accumulated 24 years' experience in industry and 18 years of teaching experience. He was a teacher of Accounting and Finance at Wetherill Park College, South Western Sydney Institute of TAFE, he had also tutored in Accounting at the University of Western Sydney Nepean campus, Hawkesbury campus and Nirimba campus. Ted retired in 2004 and he now happily lives with his wife on a farm at Glenreagh in northern New South Wales.

Yvonne Wilson

Following completion of Education and Accounting degrees, Yvonne had extensive teaching and business experience in South Australia, as well as in the ACT. From 1994 to 2017 Yvonne worked in a variety of positions in TAFE NSW, including as a teacher and head teacher of Accounting. In 2000 and 2001 Yvonne developed resources for the NSW TAFE Online Accounting project. From 2002 to 2004 Yvonne taught with Ted Clarke at Wetherill Park College, South Western Sydney. Subsequently she worked in various senior roles in TAFE NSW. Between 2007 and 2009 Yvonne was the TAFE NSW Program Manager for Accounting and Finance, and contributed to reviews of Financial Services Training Package. Until 2017, when Yvonne retired from TAFE NSW, she undertook management positions in the central unit dealing with statutory reporting obligations. From 2008 to 2016 Yvonne was a Board member of the Association of Accounting Technicians Australia, a para-professional body for bookkeepers and accounting technicians.

Michael Wilson

Michael has more than 25 years’ experience as a university Accounting lecturer in the ACT and NSW, with responsibilities for other full-time accounting staff and many (part time) staff with differing expertise. He was responsible for the provision of all teaching and assessment materials. Michael was extensively involved in teaching innovation as well as technology resource development. In addition, Michael has more than 30 years' practical business and financial experience.
