Overview

Medical-Surgical Nursing offers a concept map approach to common acute care patient presentations, using a body-systems model. The aim of the concept maps is to promote deep learning for students in person-centred care. The text also provides the student with a nursing decision-making framework for clinical planning, right from the beginning of a shift, with the student being less dependent on the nurse in applying clinical decision-making to person-centred nursing care. This new first-edition text is concise, practical and streamlined. It interfaces with other Cengage nursing texts, such as Fundamentals, Clinical Skills and Health Assessment.

Trish Burton

Dr Trish Burton, PhD La Trobe (2006); M Ed (Higher Education), Melbourne (1992). Trish is currently Senior Lecturer, Nursing and Midwifery in the College of Healthcare Sciences, Division of Tropical Health and Medicine, James Cook University, Australia. Trish previously taught at Victoria University, and was seconded to Swinburne to develop their Bachelor of Nursing course, employing blended learning methods as central to curriculum development. Trish has a background in Curriculum Development, Competency Mapping, Blended Learning and eLearning. She has been widely published, has sat on numerous Nursing Education committees, developed curricula and has participated in several professional consultancies. Trish has lengthy experience in teaching all aspects of undergraduate nursing, notably Acute Care, Complex Care (emergency, critical care and cardiac), Health Assessment, Pharmacology, Pathophysiology, Evidence Based Practice, Research Methodologies, Ethics, Legal Studies, Indigenous Health, Teaching and Learning, Management and Leadership, Professional Practice, Nursing as a Profession, Primary Health Care, Interprofessional Education, Care Coordination, Nutrition and Communication. Trish is a Fellow, Australian College of Nursing and Member, Australian Collaborative Education Network.

Ali Moloney

Ali Moloney, BN, GCert CardiacN, GCert AdvN, GCert FlightN, GCertEd(AppLearn), BEdProfHons(AppLearn), Cert IV TAE, and PhD candidate (2021) at The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC). In addition to her extensive 25-year career in clinical and critical care nursing and 13 years teaching at TAFE, since 2018 Ali has worked as a tutor across all years of the Bachelor of Nursing program at USC. She is involved in the new USC campus at Moreton Bay and works with course coordinators on reviewing and collating feedback for future courses. Ali also has vast experience in rural and remote nursing, and emergency nursing.
