LEARNING PATH:

Learning Objectives: Chapter-opening learning outcomes spotlight what’s important.

Visual Summary: Interactive graphic that captures key concepts as a means of both previewing and reinforcing reading. The Visual Summary enables students to see how the key concepts fit together and get more information about each concept.

Reading: Convenient e-reader with integrated visuals and easily accessible notetaking, flashcard, ReadSpeak, and Questia apps.

Video Case: Timely news video connects course concepts with the real world. Students answer five multiple-choice questions relating the news story to the learning objectives in the chapter and receive feedback to help them make the right connections.

The concluding feedback helps tie the concepts in the scenario back to the learning objectives in the chapter. In the second part of the assignment, students must write a short essay explaining the rationale behind their decisions. Rubrics provided.

Exam: 25 multiple-choice questions that test students on the key concepts in the chapter.

Writing Skill Builder: A 2-part activity consisting of the Writing Review – 2-3 exercises that review basic writing skills (sentence structure, citing sources, etc.) – and the Writing Practice, an essay prompt where students apply the CJ decision-making model to a criminal justice scenario and practice the specific writing skill they just reviewed. Rubrics provided.

FOR STUDENTS

Constitutional Law and the Criminal Justice System

ISBN: 9781305966468
Unrivaled in its simplicity and skill-building pedagogy, Harr, Hess, Orthmann, and Kingsbury's text thoroughly explains the complexities of the U.S. Constitution and the criminal justice system. The text avoids "legalese" and is packed with real-world examples. Its pedagogical framework helps readers develop a solid understanding of key issues and concepts, and more than 200 plainly written, summarized cases introduce pertinent cases in a non-intimidating manner. The text devotes considerable time to the Fourth and Fifth Amendments, exploring their application to such issues as reasonable search and seizure, double jeopardy, and testifying against oneself. CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, 7th Edition includes expanded discussions of the First and Second Amendments as well as cutting-edge coverage of immigration, terrorism and homeland security, electronic surveillance and the use of drones, use of force, and searches of cell phones and other digital evidence. What’s more, the MindTap that accompanies this text helps students practice and master techniques and key concepts while engaging them with career-based decision-making scenarios, visual summaries, and more.
